Reminder to help seniors during cold weather

With cold weather warnings throughout B.C., and snow expected for B.C.’s South Coast this week, BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC are reminding everyone to keep sidewalks clear near homes and other property to prevent falls and injuries of seniors and those who care for them.

It’s important that everyone does their due diligence in keeping sidewalks cleared of snow and ice in front of their homes and businesses. Shoveling and salting sidewalks and pathways will significantly help reduce the risk of slips of elderly neighbours and others with mobility challenges.

Members of the community can also join the City of Vancouver’s Snow Angel program, where volunteers help remove snow or ice outside the homes of seniors and those with limited mobility.

For more information to better prepare for the cold weather, check out BCCPA’s tips to help seniors and those who care for them during the winter months here.
