8th Annual BC Care Awards: Wrap Up

What an evening it was! Last Monday evening, the 8th Annual BC Care Awards ceremony was our first event to welcome so many to celebrate together in person, and it was an emotional celebration. Minister of Health Adrian Dix once again took to the podium to kick off the evening with heartfelt remarks.

Several MLAs from government and Opposition parties were in attendance, as were representatives of our event sponsors, BCCPA and EngAge BC members, the BC Seniors Advocate, and representatives of other associations. They all came together to cheer on the winners in six award categories, who were accompanied by family members and colleagues.

Those who could not be there could follow along with our live tweeting of each speaker and winner, as well as sharing each of their tribute videos. To see how the evening appeared online, see this Twitter thread.

Our first ever Family Champion of the Year award was also presented to longtime TV and radio broadcaster Lynda Steele, who spoke passionately of the vital role of family members and beloved companions in the care of the elderly. Before the award was presented, Minister Dix graciously invited Leader of the Official Opposition Shirley Bond to the stage to give her own remarks.

The ambience was enhanced throughout the evening with the beautiful music provided by Karen Lee-Morlang and Joel Fountain of Health Arts Society and Concerts in Care.

The evening would not have been possible without the support of our incredible sponsors:

– McKesson Canada
– CareRx
– Maxwell Management Group
– Surge Learning
– Trillium Talent Resource Group

After 2 years of being apart, the BC Care Awards ceremony proved that with appropriate precautions it is possible for us to be together in person again. If the excitement and the energy in the room last Monday was an indication, the upcoming “Up, Up and Away” BCCPA 2022 Annual Conference in Whistler, BC this June will be a celebration that will top it! Be sure to register as a delegate and book your hotel room — click here for more info.
