BC Continuing Care Collaborative: One Step Closer

The BCCPA has been advocating for the establishment of a new BC Continuing Care Collaborative to address both the short and long-term issues facing our sector. We are pleased to report that Minister of Health Terry Lake has now provided his support for this initiative.

In a letter to the BCCPA, Lake states:

“I am supportive of the concept of a BC Continuing Care Collaborative.” Lake goes on to say, “I would like to reiterate my appreciation for BCCPA’s expertise and commitment to providing health care services to our seniors.”

The Minister has assigned a member of his senior leadership team to work with the BCCPA to coordinate the establishment of the Collaborative in order to ensure it aligns with the work currently being undertaken by the Ministry and the Office of the Senior’s Advocate.

“We remain hopeful the Collaborative can hold its inaugural meeting sometime this fall,” says Daniel Fontaine, CEO for the BCCPA. “Given the significant issues facing our province as a result of a rapidly ageing population, the Collaborative offers the best single opportunity for Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health and the private sector to develop workable, cost-effective solutions to address the challenging issues we all face.”

At the BCCPA annual general meeting held in May over 100 members voted unanimously to endorse the concept of the Collaborative.

The BCCPA will report out more details to our members as they become available.
