Ensure your long-term care or assisted living home is prepared for elevated wildfire risk

With warm, dry conditions and strong winds forecast across much of southern B.C., there is risk of wildfire danger in the coming days. All long-term care and assisted living operators are being reminded to be prepared in the event of a wildfire emergency, ensuring the safety of their residents.

BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) has developed a comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Resource Database with useful tools to support your planning. Resources include:

-Key contact information
-A relocation toolkit
-Equipment lists
-A family helpline
-Situational awareness apps
-Temporary emergency registration processes for healthcare workers
-Worker health and safety resources

Access the database here.

In addition, BCCPA is hosting a Care to Chat on Climate Change Preparedness on Monday, May 12, at the Coast Capri Hotel in Kelowna. Be sure to register to learn, share experiences, and contribute to this conversation about protecting seniors in the event of extreme weather.
