BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) is excited to announce Avril McLeod, Food Services Supervisor at Luther Court Society, as the recipient of the 2024 BC Care Provider of the Year Award in Long-Term Care.
Avril McLeod has dedicated 30 years of exceptional service, consistently making residents her top priority and has fostered a strong sense of belonging and joy within the Luther Court community.
“I have worked with Avril for more than 20 years,” says Nina, one of her former colleagues. “No matter what the situation, she’s always there for you. She truly cares – and not only for residents, but for their family members too.”
Known for her famous roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, she goes out of her way to ensure every meal is special, often remembering each resident’s favorite dishes, bringing them back to a memory or special time in their lives. Avril’s compassion extends beyond the kitchen; she and her ‘Angels’ team provide comfort, prayers, and sandwiches for families during end-of-life care. When resident Roda wished for a ‘living wake’ and be surrounded by those she loved, Avril created a special celebration in her room.
Officially retiring in January 2025, Avril will leave a lasting legacy of love and belonging — one that is nurtured by more than 20,000 meals shared with friends.
“She is a pillar of the Luther Court community. For Avril, this is not a job. Luther Court is her family, it is everything.”
