Join us for an enlightening discussion on enhancing transitions in care for older adults at our upcoming Care to Chat event on April 18th at the Terminal City Club in Vancouver. BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC are thrilled to have a diverse panel of esteemed healthcare professionals, including Karen Biggs, former CEO of Menno Place and family representative.
Retiring in early 2023 as CEO of Menno Place with 42 years of leadership experience and 47 years as a registered nurse, Karen brings extensive wealth of experience to the conversation. Her personal journey adds a unique perspective to the conversation – having navigated the challenging process of moving her late husband, Peter, into long-term care after his diagnosis with a brain tumor in early 2020. At first, intending to arrange acute care at home for Peter, Karen ultimately decided to transfer him to Menno Place to ensure he received the support needed for his complex treatment.
Beyond her role at Menno Place, Karen served as President of the Board of Directors for BCCPA before stepping down in December 2022 and served as a director on the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce until March 2023. Karen was the Affiliate representative on the inaugural Board of Directors for Switch BC (formerly the BC Health Care Occupational Health and Safety Society) until April 2023.
Karen holds the Fellow Designation from the Canadian College of Health Leaders and is currently serving the CCHL on the Fellows Council, serving several CCHL committees both locally as chapter chair and nationally. In 2015, Karen received the Chapter Award for Distinguished Service for the Canadian College of Health Leaders, BC Lower Mainland Chapter.
In addition, Karen chaired the Governance Committee for the Surrey Board of Trade and was awarded the prestigious Surrey Woman in Business Award in the Professional Category in 2011. Since 2005, Karen has been a surveyor with Accreditation Canada and continues conduct surveys primarily as a team leader. She holds a Masters of Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia.
Hear from Karen as she shares her insights, drawing from both her professional career and her personal journey as a family representative.
