This week, BC Care Providers Association announced the winners of the 7th Annual BC Care Awards which recognizes employees who provide superlative and compassionate care for seniors and in addition to having the respect and support of their peers.
In this profile, we feature 2020 Care Provider of the Year (Long-Term Care) award winner Lisa MacKenzie from All Care Canada in Sidney.
Here’s what Lisa’s employer and nominator Sheila Minten had to say about her:
There aren’t enough wonderful words in our language to accurately describe a person like Lisa. She is the true definition of a caring individual. Not only does she go above and beyond every single time she’s at work to make our residents feel safe, loved and well-cared for, she also extends this caring nature to her teammates.
At All Care Canada, Lisa has gone above and beyond by taking on a leadership role in organizing the resident bath schedule, and also by providing education to other team members. She has become a certified trainer for both the Gentle Persuasive Approach and Train the Trainer Safe Resident Handling course. Lisa has happily taken on these additional responsibilities with grace and ease. Her leadership skills have also been demonstrated through her excellent communication with management.
Lisa is often recognized by her peers and clients alike for her exceptional care and dedication. She is always willing to provide additional support to her team members by coming in on her days off to cover for short notice shifts. She has been named “employee of the month” twice. She is the only employee in our organization to have ever won more than once.
In 2019, Lisa was chosen to attend the B.C. Seniors Care Providers Day recognition event at the B.C. Legislature where she spoke on behalf of All Care Canada and was recognized as a star speaker.
Her genuine care for other people radiates from within her, and you can’t help but be in a good mood when you’re around Lisa. Her warm smile and her sweet, caring nature, is paired with her driven sense of leadership and commitment to excellence in her field, which makes her so deserving of this award.
The world would truly be a better place if there were more people like Lisa in it.
