Our Board of Directors governing BCCPA is comprised of leaders who bring experience and knowledge from all parts of the seniors care and seniors living sector. Our directors come from multiple regions of the province, and reflect our diverse mix of private and non-profit members. Board directors are elected by BCCPA members at our annual general meeting. Ron Pike – Chief Executive Officer, Elim Village
Ron has worked in the Senior Living/Care industry for the past 15 years providing Senior Leadership to the organization Of Elim Village.
Since coming to ELIM in 2007, Ron has served in four roles from Director of Care Operations to his current role as CEO. Over the course of this time he has established a strong track record of leadership, business insight and strategic thinking.
Ron is committed to collaborating with partners across the sector, having served on a variety of boards and committees over the years. Ron is serving his second term on the BCCPA Board and was recently elected as the Board Chair.
Ron has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and a Master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership. He lives in Abbotsford, B.C. with his wife and 3 children and loves spending time golfing and exploring in the beautiful province of B.C.
Marc Kinna – President & Chief Executive Officer, Baptist Housing
Marc is President & Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Housing, operating 21 senior living communities in Victoria, Greater Vancouver, and the Okanagan. Baptist Housing offers affordable rental housing, home support, independent supportive living, assisted living, and long-term care to over 2750 residents.
Marc currently sits on the board of Denominational Health Association and is also the Past-President of the BC Seniors Living Association. Marc holds a business degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from Trinity Western University.
Gavin McIntosh – Vice President, The Care Group
Gavin is the Vice President of Operations and Finance at The Care Group, working closely with care teams to support the delivery of excellent care to residents. Gavin has a passion for quality care and developing great care providers.
He has strong relationships with his colleagues in the local Health Authorities and works to build partnerships in care.
Gavin currently sits as an Executive and Treasurer the Board of BCCPA. He is a past Board Member of the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) and past Board Chair of Downsview Services for Seniors in Toronto. Prior to joining The Care Group he worked as a Director with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Toronto and Vancouver.
Aly Devji – Chief Executive Officer Langley Care Society
Aly Devji is the CEO of the Langley Care Society, which operates Langley Lodge.
Leading the senior leadership team for Langley Care Society, Aly is responsible for strategic planning, capital expansion, operations management, program development, and service coordination while maintaining the highest quality of services and life for British Columbians.
Prior to this role, Aly worked for the Good Samaritan Society as the Director of Stakeholder Relations in B.C. and previous to that at Delta View Campus of Care for 16 years, he was one of the former owners, operators and visionaries, as the organization was founded in 1976 by his family. Aly has also served as Past President of BCCPA from 2018-2021.
Aly brings experience collaborating with all levels of government and business leaders to create seniors living and wellness services for British Columbians.
Jennifer Anderson – Executive Vice President, Operations, Sienna Senior Living
Jennifer C. Anderson is a leader who brings people together and breaks down cultural barriers to foster an environment of trust, collaboration, transparency and strong leadership.
As Executive Vice President of Long Term Care for Sienna Senior Living, Jennifer oversees 8,000 team members and residents in two provinces and is accountable for $550MM in annual revenue. Jennifer’s mandate is to develop and implement a new Long Term Care platform to improve all aspects of resident care and experience. Jennifer is a vital contributor to the company’s ambitious $600MM/7YR redevelopment plan.
Prior to her role with Sienna, Jennifer was the Chief of Operations and Service Excellence at the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) and later Vice President of Operations with Alarmforce Industries Inc. Jennifer is proud to be the first Canadian female leader to hold the position of Chief of Operations and Service Excellence with one of the largest insurance organizations in North America, bringing stability to operational results sponsored many projects to modernize core service delivery and improve customer experience.
Jennifer is known for her ability to build solid relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. She engages with boards of directors, earns their trust and builds credibility by delivering the right results. She invests the time in understanding the “why” of the status quo and advocates for change when needed.
Danny Birch – Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Hero Home Care
Danny Birch is the co-founder and CEO of Hero Home Care, a premier provider of personalized home care solutions for seniors. With a Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in entrepreneurship and over 15 years of experience in the senior care industry, Danny combines his business acumen with a deep passion for senior care. His commitment to improving the quality of life for seniors stems from his personal experience supporting his 93-year-old grandmother who needed care at home. A recognized leader and speaker in the senior care sector, Danny actively contributes his expertise by serving on numerous committees and boards dedicated to advancing the senior care market in B.C., sharing his knowledge at industry events and advocating for senior care initiatives.
Wendy Calhoun – Director of Operators, Kaigo Senior Living
Wendy Calhoun is the Director of Operations for Kaigo Senior Living.
Kaigo is a family-owned business that operates long-term care, assisted living and independent living homes throughout the Interior and Lower Mainland of B.C.
Wendy oversees the day-to-day operations at all Kaigo homes and provides support to a multidisciplinary team of professionals. She leads the senior leadership in strategic planning, quality improvement, resident safety, business development and best practice.
She has worked as a Leader in Long-Term Care for over 26 years, and truly believes “that providing care for the people who once cared for us is one of life`s greatest honors.”
Angela Grottoli – , Optima Living
Angela Grottoli brings more than two decades experience working in the seniors housing and care sector. For the past 15 years, she has held senior executive positions with Chartwell Retirement Residences, a Canadian leader in the retirement and long-term care residence sector in Canada.
She has also held several board member positions with major seniors industry associations across Canada.
Angela’s extensive background in the areas of operations and sales, asset management and partner relations, real estate operations, growth and integration, as well as acquisition and development make her the ideal person for the pivotal role of navigating Optima Living forward in its core pursuits: Excellence, People, Governance, and Growth.
Erroll Hastings – Executive Director, Zion Park Manor
Erroll Hastings is the Executive Director at Zion Park Manor. He is a nurse with 28 years of experience in long-term care and holds a Master of Arts in Leadership with a healthcare specialization.
He has served (and still serves) as the Chair of the Fraser Affiliate Network (Fraser Health affiliate Administrators and Owners Group) for 11 years and is currently a Director on the Board of both HEABC and DHA. Erroll has worked throughout his career as a care aide, registered nurse, care manager and DOC in Edmonton before moving to British Columbia in 2010 to take on roles as a DOC and Executive Director. He is well known for his industry participation and his advocacy for providers, residents, families and staff.
Ernie Hee – Executive Vice President and Interim Chief Financial Officer, Element Lifestyle Retirement
Ernie was a partner in a national law firm’s Vancouver office until December 31, 2018. He advised on all aspects of commercial real estate and corporate/commercial law and has a varied client base which includes well known REITS, developers, pension funds, limited partnerships and private individuals.
Ernie also acted for European real estate investors and has acted for prominent U.S. investors and real estate funds on various acquisitions in B.C.
Ernie has practiced law for over 40 years in Alberta and B.C. and has closed transactions totaling in excess of a billion dollars in his career. His skill as a negotiator and closer is well known in the real estate community.
Al Jina – President and CEO, Park Place Seniors Living
Al Jina, BCom, LLB is a lawyer and health service executive. Since 1993 he has been the President and CEO of Park Place Seniors Living, a fully accredited organization which provides seniors care and housing in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario.
Al was appointed in 2022 by the Government of Alberta to the committee reviewing the Alberta Continuing Care Act. In 2019, Al completed 5 years as Chair of SafeCare BC which was established to help improve occupational health and safety in continuing care in B.C. In 2017, he was appointed by the University of British Columbia to the Advisory Committee for its Master of Health Leadership and Policy with a specialization in Seniors Care program. In 2010, Al was appointed by the B.C. Law Institute as an advisor to its 3-year project to review and strengthen legislation with respect to seniors assisted living in B.C. Earlier, in 2008, Mr. Jina was presented the Member of the Year Award by BCCPA.
Al currently serves on the boards of BCCPA, Jubilee Multi Generational Housing Society, MCYH Multi-Generational Housing Society, and SOS Children’s Village BC. He also serves on the HR Task Force of the Ontario Long Term Care Association. Al has previously served on the boards of the Alberta Continuing Care Association, Multi-Generational Housing and Community Centre (Generations Calgary), and the Health Employers Association of BC.
Ann Marie Leijen – Chief Executive Officer, Maplewood Care Society
Ann Marie has been the CEO of Maplewood Care Society since 2020. She has 30 years of leadership and operational experience delivering community-based health care programs for older people in long-term care.
Ann Marie has demonstrated a profound understanding of the needs of older adults and a commitment to providing them with the highest quality of care.
Ann Marie’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UFV and an MBA from the University of British Columbia. She has served on various boards and currently serves on the BCCPA Board of Directors. Ann Marie’s leadership is characterized by a rare combination of experience, compassion, and dedication, maker her a truly invaluable asset to the field of long-term care.
Andrea Prashad – Senior Vice President, Resident Experience and Risk Management, Amica Senior Lifestyles
Andrea has a 15-year track record of guiding organizations in healthcare, real estate and retail through periods of high-growth and disruption to their industry/strategy that require fresh ideas.
She has experience in managing multiple functions and is currently the Senior Vice President, Resident Experience and Risk Management at Amica Senior Lifestyles.
Andrea holds a law degree (LL.B) and a Master’s in Public Policy, Administration and Law (MPPAL). She completed the Governance Essentials Program, Institute of Corporate Directors at the University of Toronto as well as the Strategic Management of Regulatory & Enforcement Agencies Program from Harvard University.
Sharon Ranalli – Vice President, Marketing and Communication, Chartwell
With Chartwell since 2009, Sharon’s national role as Vice President, Marketing and Communication, includes oversight for corporate brand marketing and lead acquisition strategies, corporate communication and reputation management and working closely with Chartwell’s senior operations team.
Sharon is currently serving as a member of the BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) Board of Directors, the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of The Chartwell Foundation and the Board of Directors of ALS Canada.
Previously, Sharon worked for over 15 years as a political advisor at the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government in the areas of public policy, strategic communications and media relations. A graduate of Carleton University with a combined degree in Sociology and Law, she also holds a Certificate in Strategic Communications Management from Ithaca College and Executive Certificates in Marketing and Strategic Leadership from Queen’s University and has completed Finance for Senior Executives from Harvard University Business School. Sharon has also completed her University of Toronto-Rotman School of Management Not-for-Profit ICD Governance Essentials Certificate.
Salimah Walji-Shivji – Chief Executive Officer, AgeCare
Before joining AgeCare, Salimah started her career in 2003 at the Calgary Health Region (now Alberta Health Services). Her roles included Articling Student, Legal Counsel, Associate General Counsel and General Counsel. Salimah also enjoys her role as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Calgary, where she teaches a course she wrote: Social Work & The Law. In January 2024 she became Chief Executive Officer at AgeCare.
Salimah holds a Bachelor of Social Work and a Masters in Clinical Social Work, both from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba. In 2022, she received her ICD.D. designation through the Institute of Corporate Directors and was granted her King’s Counsel designation.
Salimah has received numerous accolades, including Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 Award, the Women in Law Leadership Award, and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Community Builder Award. She is the Past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association National Health Law Section and was elected as Bencher in 2021. Most recently, Salimah was honoured with Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for her vital role in the continuing care sector.
When Salimah is not wearing her AgeCare hat, she can be found volunteering in the Ismaili Muslim (Aga Khan) community. Over the years, she has devoted numerous hours to charities she is passionate about, holding seats with the FOCUS Canada Humanitarian Assistance Board, the South Calgary Primary Care Network, the United Way, and the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.
