Safety Den brings out creative and innovative ideas

With a large crowd on hand at the #BCCPA2017 annual conference in Whistler, theSafeCare BC sponsored Safety Den, kicked off with four presenters pitching their ideas to the four Safety Dragons on stage, who were ready to question and critique each idea. The Chilliwack Society for Community Living had a creative presentation that shared how the use of humour and storytelling through cartoons had a positive impact with staff during a health and safety campaign. Lillian Hung of Vancouver Coastal Health, shared how the use of pre-recorded videos from family members on an iPad can help reduce behavioural issues for individuals with dementia; transforming them from being upset to being agreeable.

A fun and entertaining video produced by two staff at the Kinsmen Lodge displayed the benefit for workers to do a few minutes of stretching before and after their shift to help reduce the risk of energy. And Yana Health Systems presented their high-tech idea that uses musculoskeletal movement and functional imaging technology to guide rehab, but even better to identify potential injuries before they happen.

The Dragons and members of the audience peppered the presenters with questions, and at the conclusion of the event, the Dragons conferred on stage and announced Vancouver Coastal’s iPad idea as the winning entry. Prize money for the top three entrants was sponsored by Points West.
