On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30), we honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. It is an important day for all Canadians to reflect on the tragic history and legacy of residential schools.
BCCPA honours the histories, cultures, voices, and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also recognize the important role of Elders in their communities and encourage everyone to participate in reconciliation through reflection, understanding, and continued learning.
We also encourage seniors’ care providers to learn how they can implement, support and advance reconciliation initiatives within their own organizations. Earlier this week, the The Good Samaritan Society joined us for a webinar to share how they continue to uphold and strengthen reconciliation in meaningful, impactful ways. Watch it below to learn how seniors’ care providers can integrate reconciliation initiatives in their own organizations and long-term care homes.
