Media Release: The provincial government honours health care workers, declaring February 26, 2026, as Seniors Care Providers Day

February 26, 2026 (Victoria B.C.) – In recognition of the thousands of health care workers who deliver exceptional care for seniors across the province every day, the Province of British Columbia has declared February 26, 2026, as Seniors Care Providers Day.

“Seniors’ care providers are an essential part of British Columbia’s broader health-care system,” says BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) CEO, Mary Polak. “Every day, they support older adults, many of whom are frail or living with complex health needs, in care homes and community settings that offer a home-like environment. Their work ensures that seniors can live their later years with dignity, love, and respect.”

This declaration follows BCCPA’s 12th Annual BC Care Awards taking place in Victoria, B.C. on February 25, 2026.  B.C. Minister of Health Hon. Josie Osborne will be presenting awards to recipients in the Care Provider of the Year (Long-Term Care, Assisted Living and Home Health), the Family Champion, the Energy Efficiency Leadership, the Workplace of the Year, and the Long-Service Excellence award categories in front of an audience of elected officials, as well as leaders and workers in the sector.

“This proclamation is a special opportunity to recognize and honour the invaluable and inspiring contributions of those who serve seniors across the province, whether that be those who are on the front-line with residents long-term care or assisted living, or those providing essential services for seniors at home.” adds Polak.

A copy of the Proclamation signed by B.C. Lieutenant Governor Hon. Wendy Cocchia and Attorney General and Deputy Minister Hon. Niki Sharma is available to view here.
