BC Care Providers Association presents another three nominees for the 2025 BC Care Provider of the Year | Home Health Award. Read about them below.
Angela Booker – Caregiver, Hero Home Care
Since joining Hero Home Care in 2018, Angela Booker has made a name for herself through her compassion, excellence and dedication in every aspect of her work. Having earned her RN diploma from Lethbridge Community College, she combines clinical expertise with heartfelt connection to every visit she does. She embodies People Come First: Hero Home Care’s core value in every interaction. She approaches each client with deep empathy and emotional intelligence, making sure they feel valued, respected, and safe.
Angela doesn’t just deliver care. Instead, she transforms it into moments of comfort and joy. Among her clients, she has been known to offer spa-quality showers and hair styling sessions, planning thoughtful outings, and playing games that can spark laughter and fun. These experiences have empowered her clients to feel more independent and increased their overall emotional well-being. Her dedication to comfort also extends to families as well, as she helps lighten the load for them by completing household tasks without being asked.
Her client Mel affectionately refers to Angela as his “angel,” which reflects how deeply her care is felt. Angela’s care is truly one-of-a-kind, and clients, families, and coworkers know that their words of gratitude isn’t enough to thank her for the kindness, reliable, and heartfelt care she provides.
“Winnie lights up when Angela walks through the door. The spa-like showers, the hair styling, the crib games, these small acts bring so much joy to her day. Angela has become an essential source of comfort and companionship in her life.” – Family of Winnie
“Knowing that Angela takes Dauna out to her favourite places, for coffee, ice cream, or a walk by the lake, means the world to us. These moments give her joy, familiarity, and a sense of independence we never want her to lose.” – Family of Dauna
Gene Oliveros – Care Provider, Home Instead North & West Vancouver
Gene Oliveros exemplifies the very best of caregiving, blending professionalism with heartfelt compassion. His care journey first began in the Philippines, where he was trained as a licensed nurse and had a personal experience caring for a relative with dementia. These experiences have shaped Gene’s approach to care with dignity, patience, and respect in mind. Since joining, Home Instead, he has distinguished himself as a Care Professional who sees caregiving not only as a skill but as a calling, creating meaningful connections that bring comfort and trust to families.
Families describe Gene as the turning point in their loved one’s recovery. He is meticulous in following care plans, attentive to subtle health changes, and proactive in communicating with families and staff. This can be seen in a client he had that experienced a major health setback. While Gene’s assigned responsibilities focused on personal care and mobility support, he recognized that the client’s real barrier was emotional. Gene immediately developed a personalized confidence building plan that blended mobility exercises with emotional encouragement. Over several months, the client regained strength, independence, and most importantly, hope.
Gene enriches every life he touches. His reliability, empathy, and leadership inspire colleagues and strengthen the culture of excellence at Home Instead.
“When Gene had an accident, I was so concerned and followed up personally. I refused to accept a temporary replacement because no other Care Provider I know provides the same comfort, reliability, and understanding he does.” -Client, Dr. Aron
“Gene is great at taking initiative, and never leaves a stone unturned. His commitment to his clients means the world to them, especially his long-term higher‑needs clients.” – Peer at Home Instead
