2025 Annual General Meeting wrap up: Board updates and strategic priorities for the year ahead

Following our 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 3rd, 2025, at the Terminal City Club in Vancouver, BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) is pleased to share important updates to its Board of Directors and outline key priorities discussed for the year ahead.

Update to the Board Executives

Marc Kinna (President & CEO, Baptist Housing) and Ron Pike (CEO, Elim Village) will continue as Board Chair/President and Past President, respectively. Angela Grottoli (CEO, Optima Living) has been appointed as Vice President, while Gavin McIntosh (VP, Operations & Finance, The Care Group) will now serve as Treasurer.

Board Elections

Jennifer Anderson (Executive VP, Retirement Operations, Sienna Senior Living), Marc Kinna, and Salimah Walji-Sivji (CEO, AgeCare) were re-elected for a second, three-year term, while Ron Pike was elected to his third, three-year term. BCCPA is also pleased to welcome Dr. Katherine Chubbs (CEO, Good Samaritan Society) for her first three-year term on the Board of Directors.

Policy Motions

Membership voted on and passed four key policy motions:

  1. A Comprehensive Strategy for Strengthening Long-Term Care – Urging the B.C. Ministry of Health to collaborate with non-government care operators and the Ministry of Infrastructure on a comprehensive strategy to strengthen long-term care.
  2. Refreshing Assisted Living’s Funding and Care Delivery Model – Calling upon the B.C. Ministry of Health and B.C. Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs to work with non-government operators to refresh the assisted living model in B.C.
  3. Purpose-Built Tenancy Provisions for Seniors’ Independent Living – Calling upon the B.C. Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs to develop and implement purpose-built tenancy provisions specifically for independent living communities, which adequately address the unique needs of this enriched living model that allow seniors to age independently and with dignity.
  4. Establishing an Aging in the Right Place Tax Credit – Calling upon the B.C. Ministry of Finance to establish a refundable and income-tested tax credit to help offset the expenses incurred by seniors accessing family-funded home health support services or hospitality support services in independent living communities, thereby promoting their independence while reducing the pressures on the public healthcare system.

Other AGM Highlights

During his report, Board Chair and President Marc Kinna reflected on a year of significant change, including shifts in seniors’ care, leadership transitions, and evolving government funding priorities. He emphasized the Association’s resilience amidst many changes and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring seniors receive the care, support, and community they deserve.

BCCPA CEO Mary Polak reported on BCCPA’s activities over the past year, while Treasurer Angela Grotolli reported on the Association’s financial statements.

Looking ahead, BCCPA’s strategic priorities over the next two years include:

  • Defining a governance structure that reflects our membership and their priorities.
  • Influencing public policy and system improvement to empower members to thrive.
  • Delivering programs and services that optimize operations for all members.
  • Solidifying representation across the sector.

The meeting concluded with a special presentation by Chris Gardner, CEO & President of the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association, who spoke about building an association in a world of disengagement. Members then gathered for a festive holiday reception in the Metropolitan Ballroom, reconnecting over food and drinks.
