Quantifying the impact of lost supplemental funding — We need your help

Over the past 18 months, several temporary supplemental funding streams for long-term care and assisted living have been reduced or withdrawn. To understand the scale and operational impact of these changes, BCCPA is collecting site-level financial data from providers across the province.

We’re asking our long-term care and assisted living members to complete a short Excel template that records the supplemental funding your site(s) received in fiscal year 2023/24 (April 1, 2023 – March 31, 2024). We are also asking for any operational impacts you expect as a result of funding changes, as well as any anticipated fiscal deficits in future years. This evidence will strengthen our call for fair, predictable, and sustainable funding.

How to participate

  1. Download the template here.
  1. Complete one worksheet per site (submit a separate file or sheet for each care community that you operate).
  1. Return the completed file to policy@bccare.ca by December 15, 2025.

Why this matters

The data you provide will allow us to:

Advertisements
  • Quantify the total dollar value of lost supplemental funding across the sector.
  • Identify likely operational consequences (e.g., admissions limits, bed closures, staffing impacts).
  • Produce evidence-based recommendations to the government and health authorities for sustainable funding models.

Quick FAQ

Q: Why FY 2023/24?
A: FY 2023/24 is the last fiscal year in which the full complement of the supplemental funding streams we’re tracking was in place — using it gives us a consistent baseline.

Q: What if my funding was received in a different fiscal year but applied to 2023/24?
A: Please include any funding that was applied to FY 2023/24, even if the money was received earlier or later.

Q: Will individual site data be shared publicly?
A: No. Individual submissions will be treated confidentially and reported only in an aggregated form. If you have concerns about confidentiality, contact us.

Q: I have questions while completing the template. Who do I contact?
A: Email your questions to policy@bccare.caWe’ll respond promptly and can provide help completing the form.

  1. Where do I submit the form?
    A. Once complete, please save your file using the format: OrganizationName_SiteName_FundingQuestionnaire.xlsx. Please email the completed file to policy@bccare.ca.
