Value of promoting sector discussed at EngAge BC IL round tables

Successful sessions in Victoria and in Surrey, B.C. are now completed. The meetings between IL representatives and EngAge BC staff provided an opportunity for operators to share their views about the key issues and opportunities they are facing. It also provided a chance for peers to network.

Rebecca Frederick, Director of EngAge BC

During the round tables, attendees did a deep dive on the opportunities and challenges they faced. One of the consensus views is the need to increase the public’s awareness about the seniors living sector, and the value it can offer so that seniors are aware of the choices available to them.

“Independent living can support older adults to stay healthier for longer, through things like proper nutrition and recreation. It can also reduce social isolation and loneliness, which have major impacts on wellbeing,” says Rebecca Frederick, Director of EngAge BC.

“The challenge ahead of us is how we can help older adults to better understand the choices available to them in independent living.”

This will be a key focus of EngAge BC in the lead-up to the Seniors Living Expo, November 5-6.
