EngAge BC’s Assurity Forum

EngAge BC has promised seniors’ living operators a practical approach to meeting industry standards, and supporting the public to make informed, confident choices about services.

This fall, EngAge BC staff have been speaking to assisted living and independent living operators across the province. We have also been holding focus groups with seniors and their family members.

Join us on October 15th to hear about what the consultations have told us, and contribute to building the Assurity program.

Join Kate Mancer, Principal, Lumina Services, and Rita Thibault, Principal, Westbridge Group Valuation Partner, as they look at industry numbers today, 10 years ago, and in some cases 10 years from now. Presentation will include maps, graphs, and charts to support the data.

Topics to be discussed include construction costs from today and 10 years ago with a focus on long-term beds, contrasted with funding per diems paid, direct care hours requirements, operating expense ratios, and operating margins.

Saturation rates, with data for private-pay IL/Al, subsidized AL, funded LTC as ratio of beds will be mapped out for various markets. New supply data for today will be shown across a variety of geographic areas and demographic projections. Cap rates + sales activities, demographics. operating expenses, private-pay rents for IL, AL and LTC, staffing, and vacancy rates will be touched on.

Amendments to the Community Care and Assisted Living Act: Implications for Assisted Living Providers

After much anticipation, the Community Care and Assisted Living Amendment Act comes into force on December 1, 2019, alongside the new Assisted Living Regulation. The legislation creates new considerations and added responsibilities for Community Care and Assisted Living providers, while also increasing regulatory oversight. Are you ready for these changes?

In this workshop, lawyers Ashley Celenza and Aaron Oh will highlight some of the major changes under the new Act and Regulations, and cover some key ways you can prepare for the new legal responsibilities and requirements.

Qmunity’s Queer Competency Training

Join BCCPA, EngAge BC and Qmunity for a four-hour workshop, intended to help you build the queer competency you need to support LGBTQ2+ seniors.

Through facilitated conversations you will focus on creating inclusive spaces and building out allyship. You will learn about:

  • LGBTQ2S+ terminology and definitions.
  • The gender binary and spectrum models.
  • Gendered language, including pronouns and how to respectfully ask people which pronouns they prefer.
  • A self-reflection exercise to illustrate how, even as allies, we oppress and/or act as bystanders during moments of oppression, before discussing ways in which we can disrupt our own biases and prejudices of those around us.
  • Ways in which complicit or explicit homophobia and transphobia manifest, while discussing the similarities and differences between discrimination, prejudice and oppression, as it applies to the LGBTQ2S community.
