Ability411 helps seniors find technologies, tools and equipment

CanAssist, located at the University of Victoria, is an organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities improve their quality of life. They have recently launched Ability411, which was designed to help increase independence and well-being for B.C. seniors, and support their families and care teams.

This interactive website is operated by CanAssist and is funded by the Province of British Columbia. Users of Ability411 can browse answers to common questions, submit their own questions and find programs and supports that can help them live well.

For example, a caregiver of a senior who is living with dementia and can no longer use a traditional MP3 player, can type “music” in the search bar. The website will then suggest available technologies and discuss each option, including cost. Should they not be able to find the answer to their question, they can submit a question directly.

BCCPA is proud to have been involved in the testing phase of this important new tool and encourages our members to take a look.
