Over 400 delegates attended the event last year in what was one of the most successful conferences in BCCPA history.

“This year’s conference follows what has been another exciting year at the BC Care Providers Association,” says Daniel Fontaine, CEO, BCCPA. “We are pleased to host three days of stellar panel discussions, speaker presentations, and networking at the largest industry event of the year.”

The 2015 Annual Conference features a number of blue-ribbon panel discussions, presentations from key industry innovators, 77 exhibit booths and fantastic networking events. New additions to the Conference Program and Activities

What follows are a few of the NEW components we are introducing for the 2015 Annual Conference:

The opening plenary on Monday morning is titled “The Innovation Paradigm: Delivering Excellence and Sustainability in Continuing Care”. The panelists who have tentatively confirmed include:

  • Robert Ghiz, former Premier of Prince Edward Island and co-lead of the first Health Care Innovation Working Group (HCIWG)
  •  Dr. Sacha Bhatia, Director of the Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care at Women’s College Hospital, Evaluation Lead for Choosing Wisely Canada
  • Dr. Janice M. Keefe, Professor Department of Family Studies and Gerontology at Mount Saint Vincent University
  • Dr. Samir Sinha, Director of geriatrics at Mount Sinai and the UHN hospitals, Provincial Lead, Ontario’s Seniors Strategy
  • Dr. Ryan D’Arcy, Neuroscientist, Chair, Innovation Boulevard

Revisiting End-of-Life in Canada

The closing plenary on Tuesday is titled “Revisiting End-of-Life in Canada” and is sure to generate some interesting dialogue. The tentative panelists include:

  • Sharon Baxter, Executive Director for the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association
  • Patricia Porterfield, Adjunct Professor, UBC School of Nursing and former Regional Leader for Palliative Care (VCH)
  • Dr. Romayne Gallagher, Physician Program Director of Providence Health Care Palliative Care
  • Lorraine Gerard, Executive Director BC Hospice Palliative Care Association
  • Dr. Pippa Hawley, Division Health of Palliative Care, BC Cancer Agency

Care to Chat

The final Care to Chat this season will also take place on the Tuesday, May 26th. Moderated by Daniel Fontaine, it will feature a discussion with:

  • Dianne Doyle, CEO, Providence Health

A total of 24 workshops are being organized and will take place on Monday and Tuesday. The sessions generally focus on four key areas including residential care, home care, safety in the workplace and faith-based care. Some of the topic sessions include:

  • Embedding Technology Innovation in Long Term Care
  • Reawakening the Connection: A Presentation on technology and person-centered care
  • Supporting heart patients at home (Alberta’s MyHome Health pilot project)
  • Incorporating faith in a non faith-based care home
  • How the Smartphone and mHealth Technologies will Transform Healthcare
  • Using innovative techniques to make a $6 per day food allowance into nutritional and tasty meals
  • Safety in our DNA: How Organizational Culture is Harnessed to Create Safer Work Environments
  • Spiritual Care of People with Dementia: A Creative Approach

Delegate Package

peak-2-peakIn addition to the Sunday golf tournament, we are also offering a special “Peak2Peak” optional excursion this year which should bring our conference to even new heights

Special early bird rates will be open until March 31th. BCCPA service provider members will be able to attend the conference for the same $525 early bird rate as last year. The delegate fee includes all of your sessions, meals and Sunday-Monday evening entertainment. A special government rate as well as reduced student admission fee (for anyone currently registered in full-time post-secondary studies in Canada) will also be made available.

Our expanded commercial exhibit hall will also be a great place to network and meet well over 70 commercial members who provide vital supplies and services to BC’s continuing care sector. The exhibit hall will also become the venue for this year’s Monday evening reception.
