Media Release: BC Care Providers Association appoints Mary Polak as new CEO

Victoria, B.C. (June 2, 2025) – BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA), the leading voice for more than over 500 of B.C.’s seniors living, wellness and care providers across B.C., is pleased to announce that it has named Mary Polak as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 2, 2025.

“After an extensive search, the Board of Directors is proud to welcome Mary as our new CEO,” says Board President, Marc Kinna. “What stood out in our search was her deep commitment to working collaboratively with all sides to find the best outcomes for seniors in our province.”

Polak brings a wealth of experience in government and public affairs, having spent nearly 25 years in elected office at both the municipal and provincial levels. She served as MLA for Langley for almost 15 years and held several key cabinet portfolios, including Minister of Health, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, and Minister of Environment, among others. During her time in office, Polak was well-recognized for her thoughtful and hard-working approach that helped shape many successful public policies and programs that the province benefits from today. Years after her time in politics, Polak remains an active voice, regularly appearing on political panels and talk shows.

Since 2021, Polak has worked as a strategic advisor with a national public affairs firm, supporting corporate, non-profit, and Indigenous clients. Her passion for effective public policy and dedication to improving the lives of British Columbians make her a strong advocate for seniors’ care.

Polak lives in Langley with her adult daughter and cherishes time spent with her 96-year-old father, a resident at Langley Lodge, one of BCCPA’s member sites.

“I’m honoured to join BCCPA,” says Polak. “With an aging population, there’s never been a more important time to support those who provide care and housing for B.C. seniors. I look forward to advancing the important advocacy work that the Association does for the sector.”

Polak succeeds outgoing CEO Terry Lake, who will support the transition until mid-July.

“On behalf of the Association, I thank Terry for his nearly five years of leadership, including his time during the COVID-19 pandemic,” adds Kinna. “His efforts strengthened relationships across the sector and helped build a solid foundation for the Association to continue to support seniors’ care in our province.”
