BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC are excited to announce that our newest HCA Training Program cohort has officially commenced training this week. A total of 18 new HCAs from across the North Okanagan region will be trained in partnership with Discovery Community College by way of their HCA Diploma Program. The program offers a curriculum where students will develop the knowledge and skills required to become front-line caregivers in British Columbia.
Thanks to funding provided by the Community Workforce Response Grant (CWRG), BCCPA has received a total of $297,000 in funding, which will cover the entire cost of tuition for participants, as well as provide additional training supports for costs such as childcare, transportation, and other supports. Participants will also benefit from additional health & safety training provided through SafeCare BC.
Participants hail from various cities in the region, including Salmon Arm, Armstrong, Vernon, Kelowna, and West Kelowna areas and are expected to graduate from the program in spring 2023. Following the completion of the skills training program, BCCPA will connect program graduates with BCCPA member employers in the region.
We are grateful for the ongoing support from our HCA Training Program partners and supporting members. With every class that graduates we can address the labour shortage, and strengthen seniors care in B.C.
BCCPA is currently exploring additional HCA funding opportunities for the fall and will keep members informed of any future opportunities that become available.
All the best to our newest group of HCA students as they begin training for their exciting new seniors’ care careers!
