2023 Annual General Meeting wrap up

Bringing together Board of Directors and voting members, BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC held its 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday at the Terminal City Club in Vancouver.

Appointments to the Board of Directors were approved unanimously by voting members present. Danny Birch (Founder and CEO, Hero Home Care) joins as the Board’s newest addition, while Wendy Calhoun (Director of Operations, Kaigo Senior Living) and Al Jina (President, Park Place Seniors Living) were re-elected for another term.

Departing Board of Directors, Christine Elliot, Riz Gehlen, and Elaine Price, were also recognized and thanked for their work and service to the Association.

Members heard from Board President Ron Pike and CEO Terry Lake on the Association’s key accomplishments from over the past year, as well as its plans for the coming year. Some highlights included BCCPA/EngAge BC’s union with BC Seniors Living Association, EquipCare BC’s $14 million in funding over the next two years, and continued work on a new funding model.

The membership also received an update on the Association’s financial statements, and voted on six policy motions including:

  • Capital investments in long-term care beds
  • Revitalization of affiliate long-term care sites
  • Expanding access to publicly subsidized assisted living
  • Climate change mitigation strategies
  • Stabilizing B.C.’s continuing care workforce
  • Establishing a tax-credit to help seniors age in “the right place”

At the Board of Directors meeting immediately following the AGM, Ron Pike (CEO, Elim Village) was reappointed to Board President, Marc Kinna (President & CEO, Baptist Housing) was appointed as Interim Vice President, and Gavin McIntosh (VP of Operations and Finance, The Care Group) will remain as Treasurer.

Following the AGM, BCCPA and EngAge BC Board of Directors, staff, service providers and commercial members gathered at the Association’s Holiday Party for a cheerful celebration with food, drinks, and networking.
