Former BC Health Minister Joins Continuing Care Sector

Earlier today, BCCPA member Retirement Concepts announced that Colin Hansen, former BC Deputy Premier and Minister of Health has been appointed as the new Chair of their Advisory Board. Hansen retired from politics last May after having been first elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly in 1996.

Colin Hansen has been appointed as the new Chair of the Advisory Board for Retirement Concepts

January 27, 2014, Vancouver – Dr. Azim Jamal, President and CEO of Retirement Concepts, announced today the appointment of Colin Hansen as Chair of the Retirement Concepts Advisory Board. The newly created board will provide strategic counsel and advice to the senior leadership team of Retirement Concepts.

Retirement Concepts is a family-owned provider of retirement homes for seniors. Starting with just 55 residents in 1988, the company now has nearly 3500 residents residing in 20 communities across British Columbia. From Independent Living to Assisted Living and Residential Care, Retirement Concepts offers a variety of housing and service options for seniors.

After serving for seventeen years as a Member of British Columbia’s Legislative Assembly, Colin chose not to seek re-election in 2013. During his time as an MLA, he served as Deputy Premier (2009-11), Minister of Finance (2004-05 and 2008-11), Minister of Health (2001-2004 and 2010-11), Minister of Economic Development (2005-2008) and Minister Responsible for the 2010 Olympics (2005-2009). He was born in Port Alberni, BC, grew up on Vancouver Island and graduated from the University of Victoria with a Political Science degree. Since leaving politics, Colin has returned to Image Group Inc. During his seventeen year absence, his wife, Laura, has built Image Group into the largest promotional products company in British Columbia.
