Finnish Manor is seeking a competent and compassionate health care professional to serve as Site Leader and Director of Care.

Description:

Finnish Manor is a 60-bed complex care home with 48 additional supportive living beds. It has a rich history operating in Burnaby, BC and was first opened in 1975. Finnish Manor provides care and hospitality services to frail and/or cognitively impaired elders or those with mental health challenges under contract with Fraser Health Authority.

This complimentary dual role is critical to the care home’s commitment to provide professional and compassionate service to residents. This is a full-time, salaried position with industry-standard remuneration and full benefit package.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Site Leader/DOC is responsible for the management of the home, including providing leadership, overseeing care and care planning, https://bccare.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/medcare-img22.jpgistering contracts & measuring service partner performance, overseeing site maintenance, seeking innovation and quality improvement, maintaining community relations and marketing of the care home.

The DOC component includes responsibility for the overall provision of care and services for the care home residents and ensuring these services meet legislated requirements, and contractual obligations. The DOC coordinates the care team and provides guidance and direction to ensure the delivery of resident centered care based on individualized care plans, the site’s policies and procedures, and Accreditation Canada benchmarks.

Key Activities:

  • Leads the site interdisciplinary/inter-company team in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Home’s operating plans and systems that support achievement of the Society’s goals and objectives for the Home;
  • Ensures individualized resident care is provided in such areas as the https://bccare.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/medcare-img22.jpgistration of medications, application of treatments, performance of resident assessments and feeding. Ensures provision of basic and complex resident care which meets Accreditation Canada benchmarks is delivered. Also ensures care meets legislated and health authority contract requirements;
  • Ensures that using the nursing process and MDS InterRAI to assess resident needs; the interdisciplinary care team collects and compiles data; identifies problems; develops, communicates, implements and evaluates resident care plans and documents observations and care provided;
  • Ensures comprehensive assessments of the residents and families are completed on admission and are ongoing (e.g. MDS InterRAI) as the basis for individualized care planning and delivery;
  • Ensures effective evaluation of the resident’s response for appropriateness and effectiveness of treatments and interventions, with care plan revisions completed as required;
  • Establishes and maintains a network of community contacts, industry professionals and other stakeholders to assist and support the organization in achieving its goals and objectives within the Home and as part of the community at large. Integrates the community into residents’ lives.

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the site leader implements financial controls and forecasting systems in additional to researching and presenting a business case for all capital improvement projects.

The site leader/DOC provides leadership and promotes teamwork amongst the site’s team and holds the overall responsibility for human resource management and nursing care. The site leader sets the service expectations of Service Partners and monitors the outcomes and performance of any services rendered at the site. The site leader also ensures that these partners’ practices and policies are aligned with those of the Society.

The site leader will undertakes additional leadership tasks as required to meet the needs of residents, their families, the service provider and staff.

Requirements and Experience:

Good judgement in complex situations; leadership; knowledge of gerontology principles and best practices; familiarization with Accreditation Canada standards; a commitment to safe, compassionate, resident-centric care; ability to oversee operation of a large physical plant; computer and communication skills; and effective budgeting skills and fiscal management.

Experience in providing hospitality services, accommodating cognitively impaired residents, and providing elder nursing care are desirable. Knowledge of relevant provincial health care collective agreements and labour legislation, conflict resolution and problem solving skills, initiative and innovation are assets.

Education:

A Bachelor degree in Nursing, Business, Health Planning or Health Administration coupled with at least five years long term care management experience in seniors housing or residential care setting plus eligibility for membership in a relevant professional association; and/or Baccalaureate of Nursing with Gerontology content or post basic course in Gerontology or three (3) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A current practicing registration with the applicable provincial registering body is preferred.
